Coffee from the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano is grown at high enough elevation that some farms there have placed among the top-scoring lots in El Salvador's national Cup of Excellence competitions.
Bright, full-bodied coffee grown on the volcanic slopes surrounding Santa Ana, brewed strong and sold hot in small cups from market stalls and cafés in the city, usually with sweet bread.
Why it's made this way: Santa Ana sits at the foot of El Salvador's tallest volcano, whose fertile soil and altitude make the surrounding department one of the country's most celebrated coffee zones.
