Ojaleshi

Ojaleshi's name literally means 'growing on a tree' — for generations Mingrelian farmers trained these vines up living trees instead of trellises, a growing method that shaped the grape's character.

Ojaleshi is a semi-sweet red wine with a deep ruby color, velvety texture, and natural sweetness balanced by bright acidity, made from a grape grown almost exclusively around Martvili and Tsalenjikha in western Georgia. It's traditionally served at Mingrelian feasts alongside the region's famously spicy cuisine.

Why it's made this way: Samegrelo's distinct Mingrelian culture has cultivated Ojaleshi for generations as a point of regional pride, and the wine won international recognition as early as the 1912 Paris Agricultural Exhibition.
