Rosquillas Comayagüeñas

These corn-and-cheese rings bake hard enough to keep for weeks without refrigeration, which historically made them a favorite travel food for long trips across the central highlands.

Small ring-shaped cookies made from corn masa and hard cheese, baked until dry and crumbly. Comayagua's bakeries and market stalls sell them by the bagful, meant for dunking in coffee or hot chocolate.

Why it's made this way: Comayagua, a former colonial capital, has a long baking tradition built around corn and cattle-country cheese, and its rosquillas are a reference point across Honduras.
