Café de Copán

Photo coming soon

Copán's coffee farms sit just a few kilometers from the Maya ruins of Copán, so it's common to sip a cup grown on hillsides Maya farmers worked over a thousand years earlier.

Strong, dark-roasted coffee grown on Copán's mountain slopes, brewed simply and sold hot from thermoses at street stalls near the ruins and central park, usually already sweetened.

Why it's made this way: Copán's high-altitude, volcanic-soil terrain makes it one of Honduras's premier coffee-growing departments, and street vendors sell it as a point of local pride.
