Nacatamales

🌽
Photo coming soon

A single nacatamal can weigh close to a pound once wrapped, noticeably larger and richer than the everyday tamales sold the rest of the week.

A generous corn-masa tamale packed with pork, rice, potato, and prunes or olives, wrapped tightly in plantain leaf and steamed for hours. Tegucigalpa vendors sell them specifically on weekend mornings.

Why it's made this way: Weekend nacatamal sales are a fixture of capital neighborhood life, with families in Tegucigalpa building Sunday breakfast routines around whichever vendor's batch sells out first.
