Tamr Mahshi (Stuffed Dates with Almonds)

Serving a plate of dates stuffed with nuts alongside warm milk is considered one of the most basic acts of Bedouin hospitality anywhere in the Sahara.
Sabha's oasis dates are pitted and stuffed whole with almonds or other nuts, then offered to guests as a welcome snack — often paired with a bowl of warm milk, a pairing rooted in the region's Tuareg and Bedouin hospitality traditions.
Why it's made this way: In a desert region where nothing is more locally abundant than dates, offering stuffed dates to a visitor is Fezzan's shorthand for hospitality, still practiced in Sabha's homes and souq stalls after sunset.
