The name is a pun: 'walkie' for the feet, 'talkie' for the head — grilled or boiled chicken feet and heads sold as a crunchy, gelatin-rich snack at braai stands and kapana grills.
Chicken feet, and sometimes heads, are scalded and cleaned, then grilled or deep-fried until the skin blisters, served hot with a sprinkle of salt or a fiery chili-vinegar dip, often alongside pap.
Why it's made this way: Nose-to-tail eating runs deep in southern African braai culture, and in Windhoek's kapana yards nothing off the carcass goes to waste — walkie talkies turn an off-cut into one of the cheapest, most sociable street snacks around.
