La Trinidad once baked a strawberry shortcake weighing over 21,000 pounds to claim a Guinness World Record — a stunt-sized tribute to a fruit most of the Philippines is too hot to grow at all.
Benguet's cool highland climate around La Trinidad is one of the only places in the Philippines where strawberries thrive, and roadside stalls along the valley sell them fresh by the basket alongside strawberry jam, taho, and other quick snacks made on the spot. Visitors can also pick their own at the valley's pick-your-own farms.
Why it's made this way: La Trinidad supplies the large majority of the country's strawberries, and the crop has become so central to the town's identity that it's built an entire tourism trade — and a world record — around it.
