Davao Pomelo

Photo coming soon

A single pomelo can weigh several times more than an orange, and Davao's version is prized specifically for tasting sweet rather than bitter, unlike many other pomelo varieties grown elsewhere.

The oversized citrus fruit is peeled down through a thick pith to reveal large, juicy segments that vendors sell pre-peeled and bagged at markets and roadside stands around Davao. It's eaten plain as a refreshing snack or tossed into fruit salads.

Why it's made this way: Davao's soil and climate produce a notably sweet pomelo variety that's become one of the region's signature fruit exports, sold everywhere from wet markets to roadside fruit stands.
