It started as an advertisement: at San Francisco's 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition, Seattle's Fisher Flouring Mills served hot biscuits with jam to promote its flour, and the Puyallup Fair's president brought the idea home that same year.
A warm, fresh-baked scone split and filled with whipped butter and raspberry jam, handed out from fair booths.
Why it's made this way: Fisher scones debuted at the Puyallup Fair (now the Washington State Fair) in 1915, sold from the same grandstand corner booth ever since.
