It was invented by a vegetarian: Hadley Long ran a bagel cart in Pioneer Square and added hot dogs, with bagel-style cream cheese, in 1989.
A grilled hot dog or sausage in a toasted bun spread with cream cheese and topped with grilled onions, sold from carts outside bars, music venues and stadiums.
Why it's made this way: It grew up in Seattle's 1990s nightlife and game-day crowds, and the Mariners began selling it at their ballpark in 2010.
