Rožata — street food from Dalmacija, Croatia

It gets its distinct flavor from a local rose liqueur, not vanilla — the dessert's name literally comes from that ingredient.

A baked egg custard is flavored with Rozalin, a Dubrovnik rose-petal liqueur, and topped with caramel, then chilled and sold by the slice at bakeries and market stalls in Dubrovnik's old town.

Why it's made this way: The dessert is a Ragusan (old Dubrovnik) specialty going back to the maritime republic era, when the city's trade routes brought in exotic flavorings like rose liqueur that never became common elsewhere in Croatia.
