It's brewed under Germany's centuries-old Reinheitsgebot purity law — water, malt, hops, and yeast only — a colonial-era rule Namibia's brewers still follow by choice.
Windhoek Lager is a crisp, German-style pilsner brewed in Namibia since the early 20th century, sold everywhere from braai stands to street kiosks in its distinctive green bottle. It's the default order at outdoor grills and open-air markets across the country.
Why it's made this way: Namibia's German colonial history left behind a serious brewing tradition, and Windhoek Lager turned that inheritance into the country's most recognized everyday drink.
