Kigezi Brew · Honey-Fermented Sorghum

Enturire

The same July sorghum harvest that produces enturire also yields omuramba, a stronger fermented brew, and karo bread — three different foods from one crop, brewed and baked side by side.

Enturire ferments sorghum with honey into a stronger, sweeter relative of obushera, traditionally brewed by the Bakiga for harvest celebrations and social gatherings around Kabale.

Why it's made this way: Sorghum farming defines July in Kigezi, and the harvest season is marked by brewing the season's enturire and omuramba, turning the grain into both bread and drink within the same festival month.
